- Standard Engine (2002–2005): 3.4-Liter Naturally Aspirated V6 (LA1 3400 V6) producing 185 Horsepower and 210 lb-ft of Torque.
- Upgraded Engine (2004–2006 Ultra/Optional): 3.6-Liter DOHC V6 with Variable Valve Timing (LY7) producing 242 Horsepower and 245 lb-ft of Torque.
- Final Standard Engine (2006–2007): 3.5-Liter V6 (LX9) producing 201 Horsepower and 216 lb-ft of Torque (replaced the aging 3.4L).
- Transmission Class: All engines are paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission (GM 4T65-E).
- Drivetrain Setup: Available in standard Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) or GM’s on-demand Versatrak All-Wheel Drive system.
- Interior Utility: Configurable as a 5-passenger or 7-passenger layout with a fold-flat third-row seat.
- Lower Intake Manifold Gasket Leaks (Crucial for 3.4L): The 3.4L V6 engine is notorious for factory nylon/rubber lower intake manifold gaskets degrading. When they fail, engine coolant leaks internally into the engine oil valley. If left ignored, coolant will contaminate the engine oil, wiping out crankshaft bearings and destroying the engine. Check for a milky substance under the oil cap or unexplained coolant loss.
- Versatrak AWD Fluid Neglect: The Versatrak AWD system relies on highly specific, proprietary GM Versatrak fluid in the rear drive module. If standard gear oil is used, or if the fluid is never changed, the rear differential will start groaning loudly during tight parking-lot turns and eventually seize.
- Rear Wheel Bearing / Hub Assembly Failure: The rear wheel bearings on the Rendezvous are a common failure point, often wearing out before 100,000 miles. A failing hub will produce a loud, drone-like humming noise that increases in pitch with vehicle speed.
- BCM Electrical Glitches: The Body Control Module (BCM) is prone to solder failures or moisture exposure. When it glitches, it creates random electrical issues, including flickering dashboards, intermittent starting trouble, phantom door-lock cycles, or rapid battery drainage.
