- Engine: The sole engine is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. It produces 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque.
- Fuel economy: FWD models are rated at 25 mpg city and 30 mpg highway, while AWD versions get 25 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, according to Kelley Blue Book.
- Safety features: All trims include the standard GMC Pro Safety suite, which adds Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and IntelliBeam auto high beams. Higher trims feature GMC Pro Safety Plus, which includes Blind-spot monitoring and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.
- Cargo and towing: The Terrain offers 29.6 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up and up to 63.3 cubic feet with them folded down. The front passenger seat can also fold flat to accommodate items up to eight feet long. The maximum towing capacity is 1,500 pounds.
- New for 2022:
- Exterior: The front grille, front bumper, LED headlights, and LED taillights were all redesigned.
- Trims: The lineup dropped the entry-level SL trim and added the new AT4 trim.
- Technology: All models gained standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
-
SLE
: The base model came standard with the GMC Pro Safety suite, a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless connectivity, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
-
SLT
: This mid-range trim added features like perforated leather-appointed seats, heated front seats, a hands-free power liftgate, and an 8-inch infotainment system.
-
AT4
: The new off-road-styled trim came standard with AWD, Goodyear sport terrain tires, a front steel skid plate, and unique black chrome exterior accents.
-
Denali
: The top-tier luxury trim added a premium suspension with enhanced shock control, a Bose premium audio system, a head-up display, and wireless device charging.
- Performance: Some reviewers found the sole 1.5L engine to be underpowered and the acceleration to be underwhelming compared to competitors.
- Interior ergonomics: The push-button shifter was noted as unintuitive and awkward to use by some drivers.
- Technology glitches: Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have been noted to have inconsistent performance.
- Recalls: As of late 2022, there were four recalls for the 2022 model, though some were due to the chip shortage and others applied to a range of GM vehicles.
