- Standard Engine (SE, SEL, Limited): A 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 engine, producing 288 horsepower and 254 lb-ft of torque, powers the standard models.
- SHO Performance Engine: The performance-oriented SHO model is equipped with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6, delivering 365 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque.
- Transmission: A 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode via paddle shifters (on all trims except the base SE) handles gear changes.
- Drivetrain: Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard on most trims, with AWD available as an option on the SEL and Limited and standard on the SHO.
- Standard 3.5L V6 (FWD): EPA-estimated 18 mpg city, 27 mpg highway.
- Standard 3.5L V6 (AWD): EPA-estimated 17 mpg city, 24 mpg highway.
- SHO 3.5L EcoBoost (AWD): EPA-estimated 16 mpg city, 24 mpg highway.
- SE: The base model came with a rearview camera, Ford’s SYNC system, and 18-inch wheels.
- SEL: This trim added features like rear parking sensors, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The SYNC 3 infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen was an available option.
- Limited: The luxurious Limited trim included the SYNC 3 system as standard, along with premium Sony audio, heated and ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. It also offered advanced safety features.
- SHO: The top-tier performance model featured the twin-turbo V6 engine, AWD, sport-tuned suspension, 20-inch wheels, and upgraded brakes. It also came with unique styling cues and perforated leather upholstery.
- Passenger comfort: The Taurus offers a comfortable interior, though its exterior size can be deceiving, as some rivals offer more interior space due to the Taurus’s thick pillars and high beltline.
- Cargo capacity: At 20.1 cubic feet, the Taurus trunk is very large for its class and provides ample storage, complemented by 60/40-split folding rear seats.
- Water pump failure: Some owners have reported water pump failures on the 3.5L engines, which can be an expensive repair.
- Poor outward visibility: The car’s thick roof pillars and high beltline limit outward visibility, particularly when reversing.
- Interior quality: Some reviewers note that the Taurus’s cabin design feels somewhat dated compared to more modern competitors.
- Electrical issues: As with many Ford models, some owners have reported electrical problems, such as glitches with the infotainment system or other components.
