- Redesigned exterior and interior: The Colorado features a tougher exterior design, a longer wheelbase, and a modernized cabin with more technology.
- Single-cab/bed configuration: All 2023 Colorado models come in a Crew Cab with a short (5-foot-2-inch) bed. The Extended Cab and long bed options offered on the previous generation are no longer available.
- New 2.7L turbocharged engine: The previous 2.5L four-cylinder, 3.6L V6, and 2.8L Duramax® diesel engine options have been replaced by a single 2.7L turbocharged inline-four, available in three different power outputs depending on the trim.
- Factory-lifted off-road trims: The off-road lineup has expanded to include the first-ever Trail Boss trim, featuring a 2-inch factory lift. The ZR2 trim receives a 3-inch lift and updated components.
-
WT andLT: 237 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.
-
Z71 and Trail Boss: 310 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque (optional on WT and LT).
-
ZR2: 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque.
-
WT (Work Truck): The base model, with standard features including the base-level engine, an 11.3-inch touchscreen, and push-button start.
-
LT: Adds convenience features like keyless open and start, body-color exterior trim, and a wrapped steering wheel.
-
Trail Boss: Off-road focused with a 2-inch factory lift, wider chassis, 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and a locking rear differential.
-
Z71: A more premium off-road trim that features LED lighting, red interior accents, and a locking rear differential.
-
ZR2: The most capable off-roader with a high-performance 3-inch lift, Multimatic™ DSSV dampers, 33-inch mud-terrain tires, and front and rear electronic locking differentials. The Desert Boss Special Edition package adds further off-road gear.
- Infotainment: A class-leading 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard across all trims.
- Driver Information Center: A standard 8-inch digital Driver Information Center provides key vehicle info.
- Interior styling: The new interior moves the shifter to the right of the center console and includes distinct trim choices, but some reviews noted the prevalence of hard plastics.
- Storage: A new, available StowFlex Tailgate offers a lockable, watertight storage box with a drain plug.
- Maximum towing capacity: 7,700 pounds when properly equipped with the
Trailering Package and the
or
Turbo High-Output engine.
- Payload capacity: Varies by trim, up to 1,684 pounds on WT and LT trims.
- Recalls: As of early 2024, three recalls were issued for the 2023 Colorado. This includes a safety-related recall for the automatic emergency braking system potentially activating unexpectedly.
- Reliability: Some owner and review reports cite issues with the engine and electrical systems, potentially related to early build quality. RepairPal gives it an “Above Average” reliability rating.
