Factory Manuals OEM Specialists
- The Powerplant: 2.0-Liter Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder gasoline engine paired with a permanent-magnet AC synchronous electric motor.
- Total System Output: Combined 188 Horsepower.
- Transmission Class: Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (eCVT) operated via a center rotary gear shift dial.
- Battery Architecture: 1.4-kWh Lithium-Ion battery pack safely mounted behind the rear passenger seats.
- EPA Fuel Economy: Delivers an impressive 43 mpg City / 41 mpg Highway (42 mpg combined).
- Drivetrain Setup: Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) only.
- SE: The entry hybrid tier. Comes standard with the Ford Co-Pilot360 driver-assist suite, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 10-way power driver’s seat, and the 8-inch SYNC 3 touchscreen system featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- SEL: Stepping up, this trim adds premium appointments like heated front seats, ActiveX synthetic leather seating surfaces, LED headlights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and remote start.
- Titanium: The luxury trim tier. Fully loaded with genuine leather seating, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a power sunroof, adaptive cruise control, and a premium 12-speaker Sony audio system.
- 12V Battery Draw Glitches: A common complaint involves the small 12V auxiliary battery (located in the trunk) draining unexpectedly if the vehicle sits idle for a week. When this battery dies, the entire high-voltage system locks out, preventing the car from “booting up,” even if the hybrid battery is fully charged.
- Transmission Fluid Exchange: The eCVT transmission is highly durable compared to traditional belt-driven CVTs. However, to maximize its lifespan, mechanics recommend discarding the “lifetime fluid” marketing claims and performing a transmission fluid exchange every 60,000 miles to protect the internal electric motor windings.
- Cabin Blower Motor Hum: Some owners report a distinct humming or ticking noise originating behind the glovebox over 80,000 miles. This is typically caused by debris falling past the cabin air filter into the blower motor fan blades, or the blower motor bearing failing prematurely.
- Brake Pedal Transition: The transition between regenerative electric braking and mechanical friction braking can feel slightly grabby or inconsistent to drivers unfamiliar with hybrid platforms. Regular brake fluid flushes help maintain smooth hydraulic pressure.
