- Transmission failures: This is one of the most frequently reported and serious problems, especially on models with the six-speed automatic transmission (6T70) and V6 engines. Symptoms include:
- Slipping, hesitation, and delayed shifting.
- Valve body diaphragm wear or solenoid issues.
- In some cases, the vehicle may only move in reverse.
- A recall was issued for 2008 models for a casting flaw in the transmission case that could prevent the vehicle from staying in “park”.
- Engine oil leaks: Valve cover gasket leaks are a common source of oil leaks.
- Electrical system glitches: Owners have reported a range of electrical problems, including the engine failing to start, intermittent stalling, and flickering lights. Some of these issues can be traced to a faulty ignition switch or problems with the wiring harness.
- Power steering line issues (recall): A recall was issued for 2008–2009 models due to a power steering line nut that could loosen and leak fluid. If this fluid made contact with hot exhaust components, it could lead to a fire.
- Worn-out steering racks: Drivers have reported issues with worn steering racks and front end vibrations, often becoming apparent around 95,000 miles.
- Worn suspension components: Premature wear on front struts and ball joints can cause handling problems, suspension noise, and uneven tire wear.
- 2008: The start of the second-generation design. It was offered with a four-cylinder (XE trim) and two V6 engine options (XR and Red Line trims). Notorious for transmission and power steering recalls.
- 2009: Continued with the same powertrain options. Addressed the previous year’s recalls.
- 2010: This was the final production year for the Saturn Vue before the brand was discontinued by General Motors.
- 2011: No 2011 model year was produced for the Saturn Vue after GM decided to phase out the brand. The Vue’s successor was the Chevrolet Captiva Sport.
- Used vehicle marketplaces: Websites like Carfax and Kelley Blue Book list used Saturn Vue models and provide vehicle history reports to help assess their condition.
- Online parts retailers: You can find OEM and aftermarket parts from retailers like BuyAutoParts.com and Advance Auto Parts.
- Used parts sellers: For less common parts, sites like LKQ Online offer used, OEM components.
- Repair manuals: Service and repair manuals are available from various online retailers to assist with troubleshooting and repairs.
