- Transmission failure: This is one of the most frequently reported and serious problems, especially on models with the six-speed automatic transmission (6T70) and V6 engines. It can involve failure of the 35R clutch wave plate, which leads to symptoms like slipping, shuddering, delayed shifting, or even total transmission failure.
- Engine problems: The 3.6L V6 engine (LY7) is notorious for issues, including:
- Timing chain failure: The timing chain has a tendency to stretch, which can cause poor engine performance, stalling, or catastrophic engine failure if not addressed.
- Camshaft actuator issues: These can be caused by low or dirty engine oil, and regular oil changes are crucial for preventing related problems.
- Oil leaks: The engine may develop various oil leaks, including from the valve cover gasket.
- Power steering issues: Problems with the power steering system are a common complaint. They can cause stiff steering, whining noises, and fluid leaks from the steering rack.
- Electrical system glitches: Many owners have reported electrical problems, ranging from faulty window motors to intermittent stalling. Bad wiring harnesses, particularly for the airbag system, have been the subject of recalls.
- Airbag issues: Faulty airbag wiring harnesses or sensor problems can cause the side-impact airbags or seatbelt pretensioners to fail to deploy in a crash. A recall was issued for this in 2014.
- Heated windshield washer system recall: A faulty heated washer fluid system could potentially ignite and cause a fire. Recalled models had the system disabled by dealers.
- Liftgate falling without warning (power liftgate models): On models equipped with a power liftgate, premature wear of the struts could cause the liftgate to suddenly fall.
- Windshield wiper failure: A recall was issued in 2008 for wiper linkage that could detach and fail due to buildup of snow and ice.
- Worn suspension components: High-mileage models often experience fatigue in suspension components, such as struts and bushings.
- 2007: The launch of the second-generation body style. The Outlook was offered with a 3.6L V6 engine in both front-wheel-drive (FWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations.
- 2008: An updated ignition system was included, and it was subject to several important recalls.
- 2009: The model continued with minor updates. Some of the most common reported problems are for this year, including transmission and engine failures.
- 2010: This was the final production year for the Saturn Outlook and for the Saturn brand. It was largely identical to the 2009 model.
- Used vehicle marketplaces: Websites like Carfax and Kelley Blue Book list used Saturn Outlook models and provide vehicle history reports to assess their condition.
- Online parts retailers: Online retailers carry both OEM and aftermarket parts for the Saturn Outlook. Examples include NAPA Auto Parts and CarParts.com.
- Used parts sellers: For less common parts, sites like eBay and LKQ Online offer used, OEM components.
