• Roller camshaft: Used a hydraulic roller camshaft and roller lifters for improved performance and reliability.
• One-piece rear main seal: Improved durability and oil sealing.
• Four-bolt mains: Provided a strong and durable bottom end, especially important for high-performance use.
• Multi-Port Injection (MPI): Most versions included MPI for precise fuel delivery, better performance, and improved efficiency over carbureted models.
• Drive Compatibility: These engines were almost exclusively paired with the high-performance Bravo One, Two, or Three sterndrives. 

• 7.4L MPI: A standard version produced 330 horsepower (hp) for use in a wide range of cruisers and sport boats.
• 7.4L MPI HO: A high-output version of the MPI engine was also offered, capable of producing around 385 hp. This was intended for performance applications and was only available with the more robust Bravo sterndrives. 

• 8.2L MPI: The standard 8.2L Multi-Port Injection (MPI) engine was the most common version in this size class and was rated at 415 propshaft horsepower and 502 lb-ft of torque.
• 502 Mag MPI: A marketing term for the 8.2L MPI, emphasizing its high-performance characteristics.
• Drive Compatibility: Due to its significant torque, the 8.2L engine was always paired with a heavy-duty Bravo sterndrive, not the lighter-duty Alpha drive.
