The third-generation Mazda Miata MX-5, known as the NC (2006–2015), represented a significant change from previous models with a complete redesign and a larger frame. It was offered with either a soft top or a power-retractable hardtop (PRHT) and is praised for its excellent driving dynamics and reliability. A major facelift in 2009 divided the generation into two parts, known by enthusiasts as the NC1 (2006–2008) and NC2 (2009–2012)

NC Miata advantages

Sporty handling: The Miata’s near-perfect 50/50 weight distribution, rear-wheel drive, and sharp steering provide an engaging driving experience.
Manual convertible top: The traditional soft top is extremely easy and fast to operate from the driver’s seat with one hand.
Retractable hardtop (PRHT):

The power-retractable hardtop, introduced in 2007, adds only about 77 pounds and offers better weather protection and security.
Affordable: The NC generation remains an affordable sports car with a strong reputation for reliability and low operating costs.
Driver-focused interior: The cockpit is simple and functional, with comfortable, supportive seats for average-sized adults.
No trunk space compromise:

Unlike many hardtop convertibles, the PRHT design does not reduce the already limited 5.3 cubic feet of trunk space.

NC Miata disadvantages

Limited space: The cabin can be a tight squeeze for taller drivers, and interior storage is minimal.
Small trunk: Cargo capacity is limited to 5.3 cubic feet, which can be a challenge for extended trips.
Road noise:

As a compact convertible, the Miata can be noisy with the top down, and the stereo performance can suffer.
Rust potential: Like many Mazda’s of this era, the NC Miata can be susceptible to rust, so it’s important to inspect cars from colder climates carefully.
