2007: The I-5 engine was bored out to a 3.7L Vortec (LLR), raising output to 242 hp. This added much-needed highway passing confidence.
2008 – 2009: Hummer introduced the Alpha trim, equipped with a 5.3L Vortec V8 (LH8) producing 300 hp. This variant utilized a unique cast-iron engine block to fit the tight engine bay and featured an upgraded front differential housing (cast iron instead of aluminum) to handle the torque.

Known Flaw: Early 2006 3.5L engines are notorious for soft valve seats, which cause cylinder head failures and rough idling.

2007 Model Year
