The 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 HD models are heavy-duty pickup trucks that received a significant refresh, including a restyled exterior, a redesigned premium interior, and powertrain enhancements. New additions include the off-road AT4X and luxurious Denali Ultimate trims. Maximum towing capacity has also increased, particularly for the 3500 HD model equipped with the Duramax diesel.

Engine and performance

For 2024, both the standard 6.6L gasoline and available 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel engines are now paired with a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission across all trims.

Interior and technology

The 2024 Sierra HD models feature an upgraded cabin with new digital displays and more premium materials, especially on higher trims.

Touchscreen: An available 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto comes standard on all but the base Pro trim.
Digital Gauge Cluster: A 12.3-inch digital driver information center is also standard on most trims.
Driver Aids: The available Adaptive Cruise Control now accounts for trailering, adjusting for the added drag and braking distance.
Seating: Higher trims like the Denali Ultimate feature luxurious Alpine Umber full-grain leather, open-pore wood trim, and 16-way power-adjustable massaging front seats.

New for 2024

AT4X

: This new off-road trim comes with a factory-installed 1.5-inch suspension lift, Multimatic DSSV dampers, a rear e-locking differential, and 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires.
AT4X AEV Edition

: For even more extreme off-roading, the AEV Edition adds stamped steel bumpers with integrated recovery points, robust skid plates made of boron steel, and 18-inch AEV wheels.
Denali Ultimate

: The new top-tier trim offers the most luxurious features, including exclusive Vader Chrome exterior trim, a unique Alpine Umber interior, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, and a MultiPro Audio System by Kicker.

Standard Trims

Pro

: The base work truck includes the standard 6.6L gas engine, the Allison 10-speed transmission, and standard trailering mirrors.
SLE

: Upgrades to a larger 13.4-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. The MultiPro Tailgate is also standard.
SLT

: Adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, and the ProGrade Trailering System.
AT4

: An off-road-focused trim with off-road suspension, Rancho shocks, skid plates, and unique interior accents.
Denali

: Features exclusive Denali styling cues, upgraded leather, and a Bose premium sound system.

Safety and recalls

The 2024 Sierra HD models feature a suite of standard safety technologies, but multiple recalls have been issued, including for the steering and tailgate.

Standard Safety: The Sierra HD Pro Safety suite includes Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Lane Departure Warning.
Tailgate Recall: Multiple recalls (NHTSA #24V060000, 24V894000) have been issued for a potential water-intrusion issue in the power-unlatching tailgate, which could cause it to inadvertently unlatch while in park.
Transmission Recall: Some 2024 models were recalled (GM #N242467600) for a transmission issue caused by an incorrect bearing, which could lead to transmission failure.
Steering Recall: A recall (NHTSA #23V549000) was issued for a potential fracture in the steering gear shaft, which could lead to a loss of steering control.
