• 4.3L EcoTec3 V6: The base engine, generating 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque.
• 2.7L Turbocharged 4-cylinder: Produces 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque. For 2021, towing capacity was increased to 9,200 pounds with this engine.
• 5.3L EcoTec3 V8: A versatile engine that delivers 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque.
• 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel I6: Known for its fuel efficiency, this engine outputs 277 horsepower and a powerful 460 lb-ft of torque.
• 6.2L EcoTec3 V8: The top-tier engine, with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. 

• Base Sierra 1500: Comes with the 4.3L V6 engine and a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• SLE: Upgrades to the 2.7L turbo engine, keyless open and start, heated front seats, and a MultiPro tailgate.
• Elevation: Adds 20-inch wheels, LED fog lights, and other appearance enhancements to the SLE trim.
• SLT: Steps up to the 5.3L V8 engine, leather upholstery, the ProGrade Trailering system, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• AT4: An off-road-oriented trim with a standard 4WD system, a 2-inch factory lift, specialized off-road suspension, skid plates, and all-terrain tires.
• Denali: The luxury trim, including adaptive suspension, a Bose audio system, a head-up display, ventilated front seats, and unique interior trim. 

• Maximum towing: When properly equipped with the available 6.2L V8 engine and the Max Trailering Package, the 2021 Sierra 1500 can tow up to 11,800 pounds.
• Towing technology: The available ProGrade Trailering system offers up to 15 camera views, including a transparent trailer view. Other features include an integrated trailer brake controller and Auto Electric Parking Brake Assist. 

• Engine: The most significant reported problem involves engine lifter failure, particularly on V8 engines, which can cause knocking, shaking, and reduced power.
• Transmission: Some drivers have noted issues such as hard shifting, delayed engagement, and in some cases, complete transmission failure.
• Electrical system: Complaints include infotainment screens freezing or going blank, battery drain, and random warning messages appearing on the dashboard.
• Brakes: Problems with soft or unresponsive brake pedals and premature brake wear have been reported. 

• Safety ratings: The 2021 Sierra 1500 received a 5-star Overall Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
• Driver-assist features: An optional “Safety Confidence Package” adds features like automatic emergency braking and forward collision alert to even base models. Other available systems include Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
• Recalls and investigations: As of 2024, the NHTSA has investigated electrical system issues and reports of lifter failure. Several recalls have also been issued for issues like seatbelt bolts and potentially over-cured tires.
