The second-generation Fiat 500 family, produced from 2007 to 2016, includes the standard 500 hatchback, the 500C convertible, and the performance-focused Abarth 500. The all-electric 500e was also launched in the United States during this time, though it was a separate model built exclusively for that market.

Fiat 500 (2007–2016)

The modern Fiat 500 was introduced in Europe in 2007 with retro styling inspired by the 1957 original. It was a fashion-forward, four-passenger, front-wheel-drive hatchback that was sold in various trim levels. The North American market received the Fiat 500 starting in the 2011 model year.

Key standard and optional features

Engine: In North America, the base engine was a 1.4-liter MultiAir four-cylinder.
- Horsepower: 101 hp and 98 lb.-ft. of torque.
Transmission: A five-speed manual transmission was standard, with a six-speed automatic available as an option.
Facelift (2016): The 2016 model received a facelift with some exterior tweaks and a larger 5-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system.

Fiat 500C (2009–2016)

The convertible version, the Fiat 500C, debuted in 2009. It featured a power-folding canvas top that retained the vehicle’s side pillars for structural rigidity. The engine options and most features mirrored the standard hatchback.

Abarth 500 (2008–2016)

The high-performance Abarth 500 was introduced in Europe in 2008. In North America, it arrived for the 2012 model year. The Abarth featured significant upgrades over the standard 500:

Engine: A 1.4-liter turbocharged engine delivered more power.
- Horsepower (Manual): 160 hp and 170 lb.-ft. of torque.
- Horsepower (Automatic): 157 hp and 183 lb.-ft. of torque.
Performance: A stiffer, sport-tuned suspension, upgraded brakes, and a performance exhaust were included.
Style: An aggressive body kit, unique wheels, racing seats, and Abarth-specific badges set it apart from the standard model.

Fiat 500e (2013–2016)

The all-electric Fiat 500e was launched exclusively in California in 2013 and later in Oregon in 2014. It was based on the standard 500 but was a separate electric model.

Range and Performance: The 500e was rated by the EPA at about 87 miles of range on a single charge and achieved 116 MPG equivalent in combined driving.
Motor: The electric motor delivered 111 hp.
