- Faster 7.2-kW Charger: This new onboard charging system cuts Level 2 (240V) charging times exactly in half, replenishing the battery in just 2.3 hours. It comes standard on the Premier and was an option on the LT.
- Power Driver’s Seat: For the first time in the Volt’s history, a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat was introduced (standard on Premier, optional on LT).
- Upgraded Infotainment & Cameras: Features a sharper 8-inch Infotainment 3 system with a built-in Energy App to track driving efficiency. The backup camera was also upgraded to a high-definition digital camera.
- Stronger Regenerative Braking: The “Low” (
L) drive mode profile was retuned to offer much stronger regenerative deceleration, allowing for a truer one-pedal driving experience.
- Electric Only Range: An 18.4-kWh lithium-ion battery provides up to 53 miles of purely electric driving on a single charge.
- Gas Extender: When the battery drops to a minimum threshold, a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine activates to generate electricity, providing an additional 367 miles of range for a total driving range of 420 miles.
- Total Output: The system produces a combined 149 horsepower and a punchy 294 lb-ft of torque, resulting in incredibly swift, linear acceleration from a stop.
- Fuel Economy: Runs at an EPA-rated 106 MPGe on pure electricity, and a highly efficient 42 MPG combined when running exclusively on regular unleaded gasoline.
- LT: The entry tier comes standard with cloth seats, LED low-beam headlights, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 3.6-kW charging system (unless upgraded to the 7.2-kW unit).
- Premier: The upscale choice builds in the 7.2-kW charger as standard, alongside leather upholstery, heated front and rear outboard seats, a heated steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and an upgraded Bose premium audio system.
- The BECM (Battery Energy Control Module): A known issue across 2nd-generation Volts involves premature failure of the BECM, which can cause the car to lose power or refuse to start. Check if this module was already replaced under warranty by the previous owner.
- EGR Valve Plugging: If the gasoline engine is rarely used, the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve can accumulate soot and fail, triggering a check engine light
