- Engine: The Denali featured a high-output 6.2-liter aluminum-block Vortec V8 engine with variable valve timing. It produced 403 horsepower and 417 lb-ft of torque.
- Transmission: A heavy-duty 6-speed automatic transmission was standard. This was a significant upgrade over the 4-speed automatic in the previous generation, improving both performance and fuel efficiency.
- Drivetrain: All-wheel-drive was standard.
- Towing and payload:
- Maximum towing capacity: 8,400 lbs.
- Maximum payload capacity: 1,617 lbs.
- Fuel economy: EPA-estimated ratings were 12 mpg city and 18 mpg highway.
- Comfort: Standard features included leather upholstery, heated 12-way power front seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel with wood-grain inserts, and dual-zone climate control.
- Technology: A Bose premium sound system with a 6-disc CD changer and XM Satellite Radio was standard. An optional navigation system and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system were also available.
- Convenience: The Denali came with power-adjustable pedals, remote start, rain-sensing wipers, heated windshield washer fluid, and rear parking sensors.
- Signature Styling: A unique chrome grille, body-color bumpers, chrome trim, and 18-inch polished aluminum wheels were standard. 20-inch wheels were an available option.
- Features: Standard features included fog lights, auto-delay off headlamps, and an EZ-lift tailgate.
- Active Fuel Management (AFM): This system, designed to improve fuel economy by deactivating cylinders, is a known source of problems in some GM engines from this era. It can lead to excessive oil consumption and can cause issues with engine lifters, leading to expensive repairs.
- Interior quality: While considered luxurious for its time, some reviewers noted that some interior plastics could feel cheap compared to the premium price tag. Some owners also report rattling and cracking dashboards.
- Electrical problems: Malfunctions in the electrical system, often attributed to a failing Body Control Module (BCM), have been reported.
- Transmission issues: Some drivers reported that the new 6-speed transmission could feel clunky or “hunt” for gears.
