- Engine: The 2009 Taurus is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 263 horsepower and 249 lb-ft of torque.
- Transmission and drivetrain: A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard, with a choice between front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).
- Fuel economy: EPA estimates for the V6 engine are 18 mpg city, 28 mpg highway (FWD) and 17 mpg city, 24 mpg highway (AWD).
- Cargo and space: The trunk offers a massive 21.2 cubic feet of storage, and the front passenger seat folds flat for carrying longer items.
- SE: The entry-level trim includes 17-inch wheels, power seats, and a CD player with an auxiliary input jack.
- SEL: This trim adds heated power-folding side mirrors, a 6-disc CD changer, and an optional all-wheel-drive system.
- Limited: The top-tier Limited trim includes 18-inch wheels, chrome exterior accents, standard leather seats, and the Ford Sync system.
- Optional features: Available options across the lineup included a navigation system, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system, a sunroof, and rear parking sensors.
- Engine performance: Some drivers reported misfires or bucking at freeway speeds caused by a faulty camshaft synchronizer assembly.
- Camshaft sensor: The magnet for the camshaft position sensor was known to fall out of its mount on 1995–2010 models, damaging the synchronizers and causing longer crank times.
- Water pump failure: Like other 3.5L V6 Ford engines of this era, the water pump is internally located. If it fails, it can contaminate the engine oil and lead to significant engine damage.
- Malfunctioning automatic headlights: Some owners experienced problems with the automatic headlights, which would not work properly.
- Transmission issues: Some reports cite the 6-speed transmission as being slow to downshift. There are also accounts of transmission slipping, often preceded by a thudding or popping noise at higher speeds.
