- 2.5L 4-Cylinder: The entry-level base engine producing 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and is best suited for light-duty commuting.
- 3.6L DOHC V6: The most popular choice, generating 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. It routes power through an 8-speed automatic transmission, offering strong passing power.
- 2.8L Duramax Turbo-Diesel: A specialized 4-cylinder diesel engine putting out 181 horsepower and a massive 369 lb-ft of low-end torque. Mated to a 6-speed automatic, it provides maximum towing stability and high fuel economy.
- Base & WT (Work Truck): Fleet and budget-focused models. The Base trim is highly streamlined, while the WT allows customization via packages like the WT Convenience Package to add basic power accessories.
- LT: The mainstream commuter trim. It upgrades the interior with standard 8-inch touchscreen infotainment, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and body-color exterior mirrors.
- Z71: The mid-tier off-road variant. It includes an automatic locking rear differential, underbody transfer case shielding, twin-tube gas shocks, and all-terrain tires.
- ZR2: A dedicated, wide-track off-road machine. It features sophisticated Multimatic DSSV position-sensitive dampers, front and rear electronic locking differentials, a 2-inch suspension lift, a 3.5-inch wider track, aggressive rock sliders, and specialized functional skid plates.
- Infotainment Evolution: 2019 marked the debut of the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system, replacing the older MyLink software. It features a crisper interface, improved voice recognition, and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- USB Connectivity: Reconfigured the cabin ports to include upgraded USB Type-C connections alongside standard Type-A slots.
- Driver Comfort: Introduced a standard 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat on LT, Z71, and ZR2 trims, replacing the previous 4-way setup.
- Exterior Design: Received minor wheel styling variations and updated paint options, including the introduction of Crush (orange) and Pacific Blue Metallic.
- 8-Speed Transmission Shudder: Models equipped with the 3.6L V6 and the 8-speed automatic transmission can suffer from a torque converter clutch shudder (feeling like driving over rumble strips). General Motors released a comprehensive technical service bulletin (TSB 18-NA-355) dictating a complete system flush with updated Mobil 1 Synthetic LV ATF HP fluid, which resolves the issue.
- Chafed Wiring Harness (Diesel): On 2.8L Duramax diesel models, the main engine wiring harness can rub against metal brackets near the fuel filter housing or AC compressor. Over time, this cuts through wire insulation, throwing random engine sensor trouble codes (DTCs) or causing intermittent stalling.
- Purge Valve Failures: The V6 engine can experience premature evaporative emission (EVAP) purge valve failure. This displays a Check Engine light (typically code P0496), causes rough idling immediately after refueling, or creates a hard-starting condition.
- Shifter Microswitch Fault: A small internal microswitch inside the console shifter assembly can wear down prematurely. When you park the vehicle, the truck may fail to recognize it is in “Park,” preventing you from turning off the ignition accessory power or displaying a “Shift to Park” message on the dashboard.
