- Base model: The standard Sky was powered by a 2.4-liter, naturally-aspirated, inline 4-cylinder engine that produced 177 horsepower.
- Red Line model: The high-performance Saturn Sky Red Line featured a more powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged, direct-injected 4-cylinder engine, producing 260 horsepower and allowing for 0 to 60 mph times under 6 seconds. It also included a limited-slip differential and a retuned suspension for enhanced handling.
- Electronics issues: Problems with sensors, wiring, and the computer system are often reported, especially on older GM vehicles from this era. A bad gas cap can also trigger a check engine light.
- Electrical system recall: The Sky was part of a major GM recall related to the ignition switch. A faulty switch could cause the engine to turn off and disable the airbags in the event of a jarring event, like hitting a pothole.
- Airbag sensor recall: A separate recall was issued for a potentially damaged or bent Passenger Air Bag Suppression System (PPS) sensor in the passenger seat, which could disable the front passenger airbag.
- Stiff ride (Red Line): The performance-tuned suspension on the Red Line model provides excellent handling but may feel overly stiff and harsh for some drivers.
- Trunk space: The trunk is notably small, and cargo space is further diminished when the manual convertible top is stowed.
- Rear differential leaks: Some models from 2007 were recalled for a leaking rear axle pinion seal, which could potentially lead to a loss of motive power.
- Used vehicle marketplaces: Websites like Carfax and CarGurus are reliable sources for locating used Saturn Sky models.
- Used parts sellers: Websites like eBay list a wide variety of both new and used parts, including components for the exterior, interior, and engine.
- Specialty parts retailers: For common maintenance items, online retailers like Advance Auto Parts or AutoZone sell parts compatible with the Sky.
