The years 1996, 1997, and 1998 saw several distinct Polaris ATV and 6×6 models, each with different features. The Polaris Trail Boss was typically a smaller, 2×4 utility model, while the Sport 400L was a 2×4 sport model. The Magnum 6×6 and Big Boss 6×6 were heavier-duty six-wheel-drive vehicles. The Sportsman 500, introduced in 1996, was a large, four-wheel-drive utility ATV with a powerful four-stroke engine.
