The 2013 and 2014 Nissan GT-R (R35) were part of the first generation and received annual updates that improved performance and refinement. The core powertrain remained a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 and an advanced all-wheel-drive system.

Model year changes

2013 Nissan GT-R

For the 2013 model year, Nissan increased the output of the GT-R’s VR38DETT twin-turbo V6 engine to 545 horsepower and 463 lb-ft of torque. Other updates included:

Refined suspension tuning for improved handling.
A newly standard rear view camera.
New blue gauge illumination.
Standard high-performance differential oil across all trims.
A new handmade carbon-fiber rear spoiler for the Black Edition.

2014 Nissan GT-R

For 2014, the base engine output remained at 545 horsepower. The primary changes focused on driver feedback and handling, and a new, limited-edition trim was introduced.

Track Edition: This new, limited-production model was designed to be more performance-oriented.
- It featured a stiffer suspension with specialized Bilstein Damp Tronic shocks and higher spring rates.
- The rear seats were removed to reduce weight.
- Added carbon-fiber brake cooling guides for improved track performance.
- It came with unique blue-trimmed, high-grip front seats.
Engine refinements: New fuel injectors were added for better throttle response in the 4,500 to 6,000 RPM range. An oil pan baffle was also added to stabilize oil pressure during hard driving.
Ride quality: Stiffer chassis reinforcements were added to the dash and instrument panel for improved rigidity, which refined the handling and feedback.
Specialty interior: A new Premium Interior Package with semi-aniline leather was made available on the Premium trim.

Trims and standard features

The 2013 and 2014 GT-R were available in Premium and Black Edition trims, with a limited-production Track Edition introduced for 2014. All trims came equipped with the 545 horsepower 3.8L twin-turbo V6 engine, a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and the ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive system. Standard features included Brembo brakes, a multi-function display developed with Polyphony Digital, and a Bose audio system.

Common problems

Potential issues with the 2013 and 2014 GT-R can include transmission noise, particularly a “bell housing rattle”. The high-performance suspension and tires may experience wear, and brake rotors can be prone to warping under heavy use. Interior wear, such as on the driver’s seat, has also been reported.

Recalls

While major safety recalls for the 2013 or 2014 models are not widely reported, it is advisable to check a specific vehicle’s VIN with a Nissan dealer, as an earlier recall concerning a steering knuckle/rear axle issue on some R35 models might still be applicable.
