• Hydrostatic transmission failure: This is the most frequently reported and costly problem on the RTV900. The VHT can experience a loss of hydraulic pressure, especially when going uphill or under heavy load, causing a significant loss of power.
  • Failed charge pump: This pump supplies hydraulic fluid to the main motors in the transmission. If it fails, the vehicle will not move.
  • Worn brass plates: Wear on the three brass plates inside the pump is a known cause of hydraulic pressure loss.
• Stuck in gear: Owners have reported that the RTV900 can become stuck in reverse or another gear, often due to an issue at the top of the transmission.
• Engine stalling: The diesel engine can experience fuel delivery problems, especially if it sits with old fuel, which can cause the injection pump’s control rack to stick.
• Overheating: The radiator is located in the middle of the machine, making it prone to attracting dirt and mud. This can cause the engine to overheat, and some owners have reported radiator fan issues.
• Rust issues: The cab floors on some older RTV900s are known to be thin and prone to rust, especially with heavy use or in harsh environments.
• Hydraulic dump bed problems: Models with a hydraulic dump bed can experience issues with fluid leaks, sticky valves, and the bed failing to lift or hold its position.
