- 1.6-liter Gamma I4: Found on Base trims, generating 130 horsepower and 118 lb-ft of torque. It was available with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
- 2.0-liter Nu I4: Found on the Plus (+) and Exclaim (!) trims, generating 164 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque, paired exclusively with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
- 2014: Launch of the second generation. Introduced a heavily reworked, premium interior, available panoramic sunroof, and the high-end Uvo eServices infotainment system.
- 2015: Minor packages restructured. The popular “Uvo eServices” became standard on higher trims, and a rearview camera became more widely distributed across the mid-tier options.
- 2016: Significant advanced driver assistance safety updates were introduced. Higher trims gained available Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning systems. The 2016 model is generally considered to have better overall reliability than the 2014 launch year.
- Engine Failure & High Oil Consumption: These GDI engines are notorious for excessive oil consumption, which can lead to oil starvation, piston ring failure, and catastrophic engine failure.
- Catalytic Converter Overheating Recall: Affecting models with the 1.6-liter engine, high exhaust gas temperatures could damage the catalytic converter. This causes abnormal engine combustion and piston damage, presenting a fire risk. Kia issued a software update to prevent overheating.
- Steering Pinion Separation Recall: A massive safety recall affects the 2014–2016 model years regarding a loose steering pinion plug. If the plug backs out, the gear can separate, resulting in a sudden and total loss of steering control.
- “Kia Boyz” Theft Vulnerability: Models from these years that use a physical turn-key ignition lack an engine immobilizer, making them highly susceptible to theft. Ensure any prospective vehicle has received the official Kia anti-theft software update or glass-break sensor modification.
