Windows/Mac/Tablet/Phone Friendly
- SL: The entry-level trim came standard with the 1.5L turbocharged engine, a 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the GMC Pro Safety suite.
- SLE: Adding a few convenience features over the SL, this trim also made all-wheel drive available.
- SLT: This trim added more premium features like leather upholstery, an 8-inch infotainment system, and heated front seats.
- Denali: The top-tier trim came standard with the more powerful 2.0L turbo engine, a premium suspension with enhanced shock control, and a Bose premium audio system.
- Standard Engine: All trims except the Denali came with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque.
- Optional Engine: The Denali trim came standard with a more potent 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, delivering 252 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.
- Transmission: Both engines were paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
- Fuel Economy: For the 1.5L engine, FWD models are rated for 25 mpg city and 30 mpg highway, while AWD models get 25 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. The 2.0L AWD Denali was rated for 21 mpg city and 26 mpg highway.
- Towing Capacity: When properly equipped, the 2.0L engine allows for a towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds, while the 1.5L can tow up to 1,500 pounds.
- Standard Tech: The standard 7-inch GMC Infotainment System included Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Standard Safety: Every 2021 Terrain came with the GMC Pro Safety suite, which includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and IntelliBeam automatic high beams.
- Interior Features: The interior featured a quiet cabin and comfortable seats, though some reviewers noted the presence of some hard plastics. The front passenger seat can fold flat to accommodate items up to 8 feet long, and the rear seats have a 60/40 split-folding design.
- Cargo Space: The Terrain offers 29.6 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats, expanding to 63.3 cubic feet when folded.
- Tire recall: Some vehicles equipped with certain Hankook tires were recalled due to the risk of tread separation.
- Infotainment issues: Some owner reviews mentioned glitches with the infotainment system.
- 2.0L engine discontinued: While the 2.0L turbo engine provided strong performance, it was discontinued for the 2022 model year, so the 2021 model is the last to offer it.
- Mediocre performance: Some critics found the standard 1.5L engine to be merely adequate, with the transmission being hesitant to shift.
