1.5L Turbo
: This engine is standard on the SL, SLE, and SLT trims.

SL
: Standard features include a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, heated side mirrors, keyless entry and ignition, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. This trim is only available with the 1.5L engine and front-wheel drive.

SLE
: Opens up the option for the 2.0L gas and 1.6L diesel engines, as well as all-wheel drive. Notable package options include the Black Edition, with black exterior accents, and the Driver Alert Package I, which adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

SLT
: Adds a number of standard features over the SLE, including an 8-inch touchscreen, leather upholstery, heated front seats, and an available hands-free power liftgate.

Denali
: The top-of-the-line trim, equipped with the 2.0L engine, 19-inch wheels, LED headlights, and most optional features from other trims. It is available with optional ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a surround-view camera system.
- Official Safety Ratings: The vehicle earned a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It received the top rating of “Good” in most crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
- Headlight Issue: The IIHS gave the 2019 Terrain’s headlights a “Poor” rating for inadequate visibility.
- Recalls: A recall was issued for insufficient coating on rear brake caliper pistons, which could cause decreased braking performance. A separate recall addressed a potential issue with the airbag sensing and diagnostic module.
- Owner-Reported Issues: Consumer Reports highlights common problems including premature brake wear, as well as problems with the climate control and electrical systems. Some owners on forums have also mentioned engine issues, particularly with the 1.5L turbo.
