- 6.7L Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel: This engine was offered in three power ratings:
- 270 horsepower and 675 lb-ft of torque
- 300 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque
- 330 horsepower and 725 lb-ft of torque
- 6.8L Triton V10 3-Valve Gasoline: This engine is a robust gas option with a power takeoff (PTO) provision, making it suitable for applications like snowplows, aerial lifts, and hoists.
- 320 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque
- TorqShift HD 6-speed automatic transmission: Designed by Ford, this transmission works with both engine options and includes a Tow/Haul mode.
- Drivetrain: The 2017 models were available in both 4×2 and 4×4 configurations.
- GVW ratings: The gross vehicle weight ratings varied depending on the model and configuration, with a maximum of up to 37,000 lbs for diesel straight frames. Tractor models had a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of up to 50,000 lbs.
- Frame options: To facilitate upfitting, three primary frame styles were available:
- Pro Loader (Kick-up frame): For a low chassis height, ideal for delivery and landscaping.
- Straight Frame: Provides a higher, flat frame for maximum flexibility with different bodies.
- Tractor: A reinforced frame designed for heavy-duty towing.
- Cab options: Customers could choose from a two-door Regular Cab, a four-door SuperCab, or a four-door Crew Cab.
- Interior and technology: Depending on the trim, the cab featured standard amenities and optional features like the SYNC voice-activated system for hands-free calls and music.
- CP4 Fuel Pump Failure (Diesel): A known issue on the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel engine involves the CP4 high-pressure fuel pump. A failure of this pump can send metal shavings throughout the fuel system, resulting in a very expensive and extensive repair. The use of high-quality, non-water-contaminated fuel is recommended to mitigate this risk.
- Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Issues (Diesel): The 6.7L diesel engine’s emissions system can be prone to issues, particularly with soot buildup in the DPF, especially on trucks used for short hauls with frequent idling.
- Fuel System Recalls: According to Ford’s owner support website, recalls were incomplete as of late 2025 regarding the crankcase oil separator filter element and the DPF calibration for extended idling on some 2017 models.
- 6.8L V10 Spark Plug Issues (Gasoline): The 6.8L V10 gasoline engine has a known history of spark plug issues due to improper thread count in the aluminum cylinder heads, which can lead to costly repairs.
