- 5.4L Triton 3-Valve V8 (Gasoline): This engine was standard on F-250 and F-350 models, providing 300 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque.
- 6.8L Triton V10 (Gasoline): As an optional upgrade on F-250 and F-350 models, the V10 produced 362 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque.
- 6.4L Power Stroke V8 (Turbo Diesel): This twin-turbo diesel engine was standard on F-450 and F-550 models and optional for the F-250 and F-350. It was rated at 350 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque.
- Transmissions: A standard 6-speed manual or optional 5-speed TorqShift automatic transmission with Tow/Haul mode was available.
- Drivetrain: All Super Duty models were offered in rear-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive.
- Integrated Trailer Brake Controller: The factory-installed, integrated trailer brake controller was a standard feature, which was a segment first when introduced in 2005.
- F-250 (3/4-ton): Offers lower payload and towing capacity compared to the F-350 but can still tow over 20,000 lbs in some configurations.
- F-350 (1-ton): Built with stronger chassis and suspension components, allowing for significantly higher payload and towing capacities than the F-250. It can be equipped with either single or dual rear wheels.
- Purpose: The F-450 and F-550 were exclusively sold as chassis cabs for upfitting with commercial bodies.
- Heavy-duty components: Compared to the F-350, the F-450 and F-550 featured stronger frames, larger brakes, higher gross axle ratings, and 19.5-inch wheels.
- F-450 vs. F-550 differences: The F-550 had a heavier-duty rear axle and higher Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) packages than the F-450.
- Oil dilution: During the diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration process, fuel could mix with engine oil, leading to lubrication problems.
- Radiator cracks and leaks: Factory radiators were prone to cracking due to heat and vibration.
- EGR cooler failure: Clogged exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) coolers could lead to overheating and head gasket problems.
- Cracked exhaust up-pipes: The up-pipes leading to the turbochargers were known to crack, causing a loss of power.
- Piston failure: A weak piston design made the engine susceptible to piston cracking, especially under heavy loads or with aftermarket tuning.
- Steering Gear Flange Bolt Recall: The 2008–2010 F-250 and F-350 had a recall for steering gear mounting flange bolts that could loosen and break.
- Interior quality: Depending on the trim, the cab ranged from the rugged, basic XL to the luxurious King Ranch or Harley-Davidson editions with high-end leather and wood trim.
- Ford SYNC: The Ford SYNC voice-activated communications and entertainment system was optional on most trims and came standard on the Lariat and King Ranch.
- Navigation system: An optional touch-screen navigation system included a CD/DVD player and MP3 compatibility.
- Rear-seat storage: XLT and higher Crew Cab models featured a standard FlexFold rear seat with a steel load floor for versatile storage.
