Windows/Mac/Tablet/Phone Friendly
- Engine: All 2020 Trax models are equipped with a single engine option: a 1.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder ECOTEC engine.
- Horsepower: 138 hp
- Torque: 148 lb-ft
- Transmission: A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard on all trims.
- Drivetrain: The Trax comes standard with front-wheel drive (FWD) but offers an optional all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.
- Performance and handling: While the engine provides enough pep for city driving, its acceleration is considered underwhelming, especially for highway merging or when fully loaded. The ride is generally firm and offers a stable feel, with quick steering ideal for navigating crowded urban areas.
- Fuel economy: EPA estimates for the 2020 model are 26 mpg city and 31 mpg highway for FWD models. With AWD, the fuel economy is slightly lower, at 24 mpg city and 29 mpg highway.
- LS: The base model includes a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot (subscription required), a rearview camera, and 16-inch steel wheels.
- LT: This mid-tier trim adds convenience features like cruise control, remote start, satellite radio, roof rails, and upgraded headlights.
- Premier: The top trim includes upscale additions such as simulated leatherette seats, heated front seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, a Bose premium audio system, and advanced driver-assist features like blind-spot monitoring.
- Interior and cargo: The
Trax
offers a spacious-feeling cabin with a high seating position and good outward visibility. The interior features hard plastics that are reflective of its budget-friendly price.
- Cargo capacity: Behind the rear seats, there is 18.7 cubic feet of space, which expands to a respectable 48.4 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded down. A flat-folding front passenger seat allows for carrying longer items.
- Infotainment: Standard on all models is a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 software, along with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Safety: The
Trax
earned a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Available advanced safety features, standard on the Premier trim, include Blind-Spot Monitoring and Forward Collision Alert.
- Underpowered engine: Reviewers and some owners found the 1.4L engine to be sluggish, especially during highway acceleration.
- Limited advanced safety: Many driver-assistance features, common on competitors in the same year, are not standard on the lower trims.
- Aging design: The Trax was due for a redesign, and some materials and styling felt dated compared to rivals.
