- Engine: All 2020 Traverse models are powered by a 3.6L V6 engine that produces 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque.
- Transmission: A 9-speed automatic transmission is standard across all trims.
- Fuel Economy: FWD models get an EPA-estimated 18 mpg city / 27 mpg highway, while AWD models get 17 mpg city / 25 mpg highway.
- Towing: When equipped with the available trailering package, the Traverse can tow up to 5,000 pounds. Without the package, the towing capacity is limited to 1,500 pounds.
- Transmission shudder: Some owners have reported a shuddering or hesitation, particularly when accelerating or shifting gears, possibly related to the torque converter. A recall was issued for missing bolts on the start-stop transmission accumulator endcap on some vehicles.
- Electrical issues: Problems such as a blank or freezing infotainment screen, unexplained battery drain, and random warning lights have been reported.
- Exhaust pipe bracket: The front exhaust pipe bracket is known to break due to poor welding, causing rattling noises and potentially damaging the catalytic converter. Some owners have noted that a special coverage bulletin for this issue didn’t include the 2020 model year.
- Recalls: The 2020 Traverse was subject to several recalls, including for a cracked frame rail, issues with the fuel pump’s jet nozzle, and defective tires.
- Edmunds: Praised the Traverse for its spacious and versatile interior and smooth ride, but noted that some interior materials feel low-rent for the class.
- Kelley Blue Book: Gave the 2020 Traverse a mostly positive consumer rating. Owners generally appreciated the vehicle’s comfort and styling but were less satisfied with its value.
- U.S. News & World Report: Mentioned the vehicle’s capable V6 engine and smooth ride, but found the handling average for its class.
