For the 2011 model year, the Chevrolet Silverado lineup, spanning the 1500, 2500, and 3500 series, offered a wide range of engines to meet different power and capability needs. Engine sizes included the 4.3L V6, 4.8L V8, 5.3L V8, 6.0L V8, 6.2L V8, and 6.6L V8. The 7.0L engine was not available in the 2011 Silverado.

: The standard base engine provided adequate performance for light-duty work.

Silverado HD (2500HD and 3500HD)

The 2011 model year brought a major redesign for the Heavy Duty (HD) trucks, including new frames, suspensions, and a more powerful 6.6L Duramax diesel engine.

6.0L V8 (Gas)

: The standard engine for the heavy-duty models.

Key features of the 2011 Silverado

Transmissions: While the base 4.3L and 4.8L engines were mated to a 4-speed automatic, all other engines utilized a more modern 6-speed automatic transmission. The Duramax was paired with a heavy-duty Allison transmission.
Active Fuel Management (AFM): The V8 engines featured AFM technology, which could deactivate cylinders to improve fuel efficiency under light loads.
Performance: The new 6.6L Duramax engine was praised for its power and effectiveness, especially with its “smart” exhaust braking for downhill towing.
Safety and capability: Properly equipped, the 2500HD could tow up to 16,500 pounds with a fifth-wheel connection.
