: Standard on the LS, LT, and LTZ trims, this engine produces 185 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque, and is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission.

3.6L V6
: Exclusive to the Sport trim, this engine delivers 264 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque, and comes with a six-speed automatic transmission.
- Towing capacity: The Equinox has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.

: The base model included standard features like air conditioning, power windows, remote keyless entry, a six-speaker audio system with XM Satellite Radio, and 16-inch aluminum wheels.

: This trim added comfort and convenience options, with two sub-trims (1LT and 2LT) that could include features like heated front seats, a power driver’s seat, and an upgraded sound system.

LTZ
: The top-tier luxury trim included leather seating, heated front seats, and chrome exterior accents.
- Sport: The performance-oriented Sport trim featured the more powerful 3.6L V6 engine, a sport-tuned suspension, 18-inch wheels, and a hydraulic power-steering system for improved road feel.
- Seating: Seating for five was standard, with a rear seat that could slide almost 8 inches fore and aft to adjust for cargo space or passenger legroom.
- Cargo capacity: The Equinox offers 35 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats, which expands to 69 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down.
- Multi-level cargo shelf: A clever feature allowed for two levels of cargo storage in the rear.
- Technology: Standard models came with an auxiliary input jack for an MP3 player, while available options included Bluetooth phone connectivity and an upgraded Pioneer premium audio system.
- Standard safety: Standard equipment on all trims included:

- Traction and stability control (StabiliTrak)
- Dual-stage front airbags
- Side-curtain airbags with rollover protection sensors
