Like most half breeds, however, the ActiveHybrid 5 takes a confounded and costly way to accomplish its mix of eco-friendliness and execution. On the off chance that mileage is a main need, you’ll see that there are many progressively proficient and more affordable options to the 2016 ActiveHybrid 5. To start with, there’s BMW’s own 535d, which presents a consolidated 30 mpg rating (also a gigantic 38 mpg thruway execution), maintains the brand’s exhibition guarantee and costs a few thousand dollars not exactly the 2016 ActiveHybrid 5. BMW’s 528i, the four-chamber controlled kin of the ActiveHybrid 5, is only a half-second more slow to 60 mph, yet conveys somewhat better mileage at 27 mpg joined and will spare you enough to purchase all the fuel you’d have to continue motoring in it for quite a long while.
Outside the BMW family there’s the diesel-controlled 2016 Mercedes-Benz E250 Bluetec, which is situated for most extreme productivity and along these lines not exactly a match in through and through execution. On the off chance that you truly need a half and half, the Lexus GS 450h is positively worth a look, given its 31 mpg joined rating. Infiniti’s Q70 half and half additionally contends in the moderate size extravagance portion and is both snappier and more eco-friendly than the ActiveHybrid5. In any case, we’ve not discovered its ride quality, taking care of or configuration to be especially impressive .The 2016 ActiveHybrid 5 is a fine extravagance vehicle that won’t frustrate whether you are a first-time BMW customer or have had a few BMWs in the carport. Yet, except if having both a BMW and a half breed is an absolute necessity, you’ll surely discover other extravagance vehicles that offer better generally speaking worth whether you are looking for efficiency, execution or both.

- Portable & Convenient – Compact PDF files make storage and access simple from virtually any device.
- Gasoline Engine: A 3.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged inline 6-cylinder making 300 horsepower on its own.
- Electric Motor: A synchronous motor adding 55 horsepower.
- Combined Output: 335 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque routed exclusively to the rear wheels (RWD).
- Transmission: A seamless 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.
- 0-60 MPH Sprint: Dispatches the run in an athletic 5.7 seconds.
- Fuel Economy: Delivering an EPA-estimated 23 mpg city / 30 mpg highway (26 combined), it offers a minor city-mileage bump over a standard 535i but is not a dedicated fuel-sipper.
- Premium Cabin: Includes standard 10-way power leather seats, driver memory functions, and dark wood trim accents.
- Infotainment: Features the BMW iDrive control system paired with navigation, real-time traffic data, enhanced Bluetooth audio, and a premium 12-speaker audio system.
- Intelligent Climate Control: The air conditioning compressor runs completely off the high-voltage hybrid battery. This means when the engine shuts off at red lights via Auto Start-Stop, the cabin stays ice-cold without restarting the engine.
- Severely Compromised Trunk Space: The lithium-ion battery pack is housed directly between the rear seats and the trunk. This shrinks cargo capacity down to a mere 10.0 cubic feet (roughly a 30% reduction from a normal 5 Series), completely eliminating the possibility of folding rear seats for long items.
- Added Weight: The hybrid battery, cooling lines, and motor add significant weight, bringing the curb weight up to 4,288 lbs. This makes the car feel heavier and slightly less nimble through tight corners than a standard 535i.
- High-Voltage Battery Degradation: The original 4-year/50,000-mile factory warranty has expired. If the hybrid battery fails or drops cells, replacement costs out-of-pocket can easily clear $6,000 to $8,000 at a dealership. Ensure you have a specialized pre-purchase inspection (PPI) to pull the battery pack’s state of health (SOH).
- N55 Coolant & Oil Leaks: The 3.0L engine is highly prone to oil leaks from the valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket, and oil pan gasket. Left unaddressed, oil leaking from the filter housing can drip directly onto the drive belt, causing it to slip off and get sucked into the front main crank seal.
- Electric Water Pump Failures: The N55 uses an electric water pump rather than a mechanical belt-driven unit. These pumps tend to fail suddenly between 60,000 and 90,000 miles, resulting in immediate engine overheating warnings.
- Auxiliary 12V Battery Complexities: The car relies on separate 12V auxiliary batteries to manage the electronics. If they start dying, they will throw a cascade of misleading drivetrain error messages across the digital dash screen.
