- Engine: The Denali’s sole engine was a 6.2-liter aluminum-block Vortec V8 with variable valve timing. It produced 403 horsepower and 417 lb-ft of torque.
- Transmission: The engine was paired with a heavy-duty 6-speed automatic transmission with a “Driver Shift Control” manual shifting mode.
- Drivetrain: Full-time all-wheel drive was standard on the AWD model, but a 2WD Denali was also available for the first time.
- Towing and payload:
- Maximum towing capacity: Up to 9,300 lbs for the AWD model and 9,600 lbs for the 2WD model.
- Maximum payload capacity: Up to 1,592 lbs (AWD) and 1,618 lbs (2WD).
- Fuel economy: EPA-estimated fuel economy was 12 mpg city and 19 mpg highway for the AWD model.
- Comfort: Standard features included heated and cooled leather-appointed front seats with 12-way power adjustments and memory settings for the driver.
- Technology: The Denali came with a Bose premium audio system, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, and available navigation and rear-seat DVD entertainment systems.
- Convenience: Standard features included a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, power-adjustable pedals, remote start, and dual-zone climate control.
- Styling: A signature chrome grille and chrome body-side moldings were standard.
- Wheels: It came standard with 18-inch polished aluminum wheels, with 20-inch wheels available as an option.
- Additional features: Fog lights, a power sunroof, and a locking EZ-lift tailgate were also standard.
- Engine problems: The Active Fuel Management (AFM) system on the 6.2L V8 can be a source of excessive oil consumption and can lead to collapsed lifters.
- Electrical system: Some owners have reported issues with the Body Control Module (BCM), which can cause various electrical malfunctions, including erratic gauges and flickering dashboard lights.
- Interior quality: While premium for its time, some interior plastics can be prone to cracking or rattling, especially on the dashboard.
- Safety recalls: Some 2009 Sierras, including the Denali, were part of recalls for Takata airbag inflators and the heated washer fluid system.
