- The Powerplant: Equipped strictly with a 3.1-Liter Naturally Aspirated V6 engine (Engine Generation: 3100 V6).
- Power Metrics: Delivered 160 Horsepower and 185 lb-ft of Torque (boosted slightly to 175 HP from the 2000 model year onward due to intake design updates).
- Transmission Class: Paired with a smooth 4-speed automatic transmission (GM 4T65-E).
- Cabin Seating Blueprint: Noted for its traditional 6-passenger configuration featuring a front split-bench seat and column shifter.
- Intake Manifold Gasket Leaks (Crucial): This generation of the GM 3100 V6 engine is famous for its factory nylon/rubber lower intake manifold gaskets degrading over time. When they fail, engine coolant leaks internally into the engine oil valley or externally down the block. If left ignored, coolant will contaminate the engine oil, wiping out crankshaft bearings and destroying the engine. The permanent fix requires installing updated aftermarket metal-carrier gaskets.
- Power Window Regulator Failure: The cables and plastic clips inside the door panels that lift the power windows are highly prone to snapping. If you hear a grinding noise inside the door and the window glass drops completely into the door frame, the window regulator assembly must be replaced.
- Rusted Rocker Panels: For cars driven in northern “salt belt” climates, the lower metal rocker panels located directly beneath the plastic trim under the doors are notorious for trapping moisture and salt, leading to severe rust and body perforation.
- Vague Steering Rack Leaks: The power steering rack-and-pinion unit can develop fluid leaks at the end seals over 120,000 miles, resulting in a low power steering reservoir fluid groan and heavy steering effort when parking.
