The 2013–2017 Chevrolet Equinox represents the latter half of the vehicle’s second generation. This specific five-year stretch is highly popular on the used market because it bridges the gap between budget-friendly pricing and modern standard technology.

Powertrain & Performance

Across all five model years, the Equinox came standard with a six-speed automatic transmission and offered a choice between front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). There are two main engine variants:

2.4L Ecotec 4-Cylinder: Produces 182 horsepower. It delivers an EPA-estimated 22 city / 32 highway MPG in FWD configurations.
3.6L LFX V6 (New for 2013): Replaced the older 3.0L V6. It pushes out 301 horsepower, making it one of the most powerful options in its class. This upgrade increases the maximum towing capacity to 3,500 pounds.

Key Model Year Changes (2013–2017)

2013: Introduced the 3.6L V6 engine, updated the Chevy MyLink infotainment touchscreen interface, and added optional safety tech (Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning).
2014: Chrome-clad wheels became standard equipment on the top-tier LTZ trim.
2015: Built-in OnStar with a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot became standard on LT and LTZ trims. A budget-focused base “L” trim was also introduced.
2016 (Mid-Cycle Refresh): Received a significant styling update featuring a redesigned dual-port front grille, projector-beam headlights, and standard 7-inch touchscreens across all trims. New optional blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic safety alerts were added.
2017: The top-of-the-line LTZ trim was renamed to the Premier trim. Midnight Edition and Sport appearance packages were introduced.

Excessive Oil Consumption: The 2.4L 4-cylinder engine is widely known for burning through oil quickly, which can cause severe internal engine damage if the fluid level is not checked frequently. This issue is most severe in 2013 models.
